- Since 2024, more than 500 former patients of Dr. Brock have filed civil lawsuits against him and the medical center for allowing years of alleged patient sexual abuse.
- Many patients have asserted that they told Cedars-Sinai about what was happening, but were dismissed or ignored.
Barry J. Brock was an obstetrician-gynecologist at several practices in California, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, until he retired from medicine in 2024. Since then, more than 500 former patients have filed lawsuits against Brock and the facilities where he worked, alleging that Brock sexually abused them as patients for decades and that the facilities knowingly concealed the abuse and medical misconduct. Brock surrendered his medical license in 2025, but has denied all allegations against him.
Sexual Abuse and Misconduct Allegations Against Dr. Barry Brock
Barry Brock is accused of the following misconduct and more during gynecological exams and procedures:
- Watching patients change
- Groping them
- Commenting on their attractiveness
- Failing to wear gloves
- Massaging their genitals
- Placing unnecessary sutures in the perineal area after childbirth
The allegations against him span almost the entirety of his four-decade career, with attempts to report the abuse going back nearly to the beginning.
Brock was a member of the Cedars-Sinai physician network from the 1980s until 2018, and he retained clinical privileges there until mid-2024. He also worked at Beverly Hills OB-GYN and Rodeo Drive Women’s Health Center before retiring from medicine in August 2024.
Cedars-Sinai has not disclosed whether it was aware of prior reports regarding Brock when it terminated his privileges in 2024.
A History of Misconduct at Cedars-Sinai
Multiple former doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, including Brock, have faced criminal charges, convictions, and civil lawsuits for alleged patient abuse and sexual assault. Former patients said the medical center failed to act on red flags and patient reports, allowing Brock to continue to treat vulnerable women for decades.
One lawsuit alleges that Brock’s recent retirement took place so that Cedars-Sinai could attempt to conceal that he was a “serial predator” who sexually exploited and abused hundreds of unsuspecting female patients.

How To File A Civil Lawsuit Against Barry Brock and Cedars-Sinai
A civil sexual abuse lawsuit enables victims to seek monetary compensation for the harm inflicted on them. Many people impacted by doctor sexual abuse, including former patients of Brock, have filed sexual abuse lawsuits against perpetrators, the hospitals or medical institutions that employ them, and other responsible parties.
The first step to filing a civil lawsuit for medical sexual abuse is to speak with an experienced sexual abuse lawyer.
It’s also important to consider the statute of limitations for sexual abuse and assault in California when determining whether to take legal action. California’s deadlines for filing these lawsuits are as follows:
- If you were an adult when the assault occurred:
- If the assault occurred on or after January 1, 2019, you have 10 years from the incident or within three years of discovering that an injury resulted from the abuse to file suit.
- If the assault occurred before January 1, 2019, you have two years to file suit.
- If you were a minor when the abuse occurred:
- If the last incident occurred on or after January 1, 2024, there is no deadline for filing suit.
- If the abuse occurred before January 1, 2024, you must file your claim within five years of discovering the psychological injury caused by the abuse or by your 40th birthday, whichever is later.
How to Report Sexual Assault
Reporting medical sexual assault to the authorities and the appropriate oversight agencies is crucial. Even if no criminal charges are filed or the perpetrator is no longer licensed, filing a report creates a valuable paper trail that can bolster a civil lawsuit.
Even if the sexual assault or abuse occurred years ago, you still have the right to report it to law enforcement, regardless of whether the applicable criminal statute of limitations has expired. You can report sexual abuse to law enforcement by contacting your local law enforcement agency.
Reporting to regulatory agencies is also an option for victims of medical sexual abuse. You can file a report with the Cedars-Sinai Office of Patient Advocacy via email or phone. Additionally, you could file a complaint with the Medical Board of California. However, because Brock’s license has already been surrendered, this may be unnecessary.
