- Multiple families and government entities are suing online communication platform Discord for allegedly exposing minor users to sexual predators.
- If you or your child has been sexually abused, groomed, or exploited on Discord, you have rights and legal options for seeking justice and compensation.
Discord is a communication app that lets users ages 13 and over chat via text, voice, or video. As of 2023, it had 200 million monthly active users and 560 million registered accounts. However, minimal safeguards and parental controls have turned Discord into a hunting ground for sexual predators, including those who find minors on other platforms like Roblox and lure them to Discord for unmonitored communication. Now, families and state Attorneys General are filing online abuse lawsuits against Discord for failing to protect minor users from predators.
Is Discord Safe for My Child?
When deciding whether to allow your child or teen to use Discord, it’s crucial to weigh the risks and potential long-term consequences of exposure to explicit content. Current lawsuits against Discord allege that the company put young users at risk by failing to implement meaningful age-verification policies, moderation systems, parental controls, privacy settings, and more. The platform is also accused of failing to respond to parental concerns of grooming.
Discord does have a Family Center that lets parents see how their children are spending time on Discord through an activity feed. However, this feature does not allow parents to remove their teens from servers or direct messages or to read their private messages. Attorneys say this lack of direct parental controls puts children at risk of direct harm.

Discord Lawsuits in the News
Major lawsuits have been filed against Discord by both state governments and individual families in recent years for alleged sexual abuse, sextortion, and grooming on the platform. Discord has also been named in lawsuits against Roblox and other platforms where predators lured children from another online location to Discord.
May 2026 – Texas Attorney General Sues Discord for Exposing Children to Predators
In May 2026, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Discord, alleging the platform exposes children to predators and deceives users about the safety of the platform. Paxton launched the investigation into Discord in 2024 regarding user privacy, expanding it in 2025 to focus on sexual exploitation of minors and extremist content.
Paxton is asking the court to require Discord to implement age verification and pay fines for deceptive trade practices.
The lawsuit came in the wake of a 2025 lawsuit filed by the family of a 13-year-old girl who was groomed on Roblox, then Discord, before being sexually assaulted in her home.
May 2026 – Nevada Attorney General Sues Discord for Endangering Youth
In early May 2026, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford filed a lawsuit against Discord. The suit alleges that Discord has designed its platform in a way that endangers young users and is failing to adequately explain those dangers to parents.
According to the suit, Discord’s lack of meaningful age verification, hands-off approach to moderation/banning, and refusal to limit online interactions between children and adult strangers made it a go-to platform for child abusers.
February 2026 – Parents of Washington Teen Pressured to Suicide Sue Discord for Platforming Abusive Groups
In February 2026, the parents of a Washington 13-year-old who committed suicide filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Discord. The couple alleges that a member of the online extremist network “764” used the platform and pushed their son to take his own life. They say the platform caused the suicide and abetted one of the most dangerous child abuse cults in modern history.
According to the suit, Discord “supplied 764 with unlimited victims” by allowing members to find vulnerable victims on popular platforms, elicit private information and sexual images from them, and then blackmail them into mutilating themselves or harming others. Discord allegedly failed to prevent or disrupt the exploitation.
April 2025 – New Jersey Attorney General Sues Discord for Misleading Parents About Safety
In April 2025, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin filed a lawsuit against Discord, alleging that its deceptive and unconscionable business practices have misled parents about safety and risks to young users.
An investigation found that Discord violated state consumer protection laws by exposing minor users to sexual and violent content and leaving them vulnerable to online predators.
