A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempting to exploit minors on Snapchat and coerce them into producing child sex abuse material. Scott Cunha, a 26-year-old from Brookline, was sentenced after admitting to one count of sexual exploitation of children.
Cunha’s Crime: Using Snapchat to Target Vulnerable Minors
Beginning in 2022, Cunha used Snapchat to initiate conversations with multiple minors aged 13 to 16. The conversations began innocently, but soon turned manipulative as Cunha promised money and gifts in exchange for nude photos and videos. The victims, who lived in several states including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri, were coerced by Cunha to send explicit content.
Not only did Cunha manipulate these children through online exchanges, but he also invited them to meet him in person, offering money for sex acts. One victim even met Cunha in person at his request.
The Arrest and Legal Outcome
In January 2025, law enforcement authorities arrested Cunha. After his guilty plea, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison. This case highlights the ongoing dangers minors face on social media platforms and the need for vigilance in protecting children from online predators.
