Dr. Stockin: Military Sexual Abuse Allegations
Video Transcript
Today, we are discussing the serious allegations surrounding Dr. Major Michael Stockin – a military doctor who has worked as a pain doctor and anesthesiologist in his career – including most recently working at Madigan Army Medical Center near Tacoma in Washington since July 2019.
During his 10-year career in the military, Dr. Stockin also worked as a military medical doctor in Iraq, Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside of D.C.
Currently, Dr. Stockin is charged with 52 counts of abusive sexual contact involving 41 male patient victims. These charges arose from what many patients described as invasive procedures under the guise of medical treatment. The scandal has rocked the military community, leading to one of the largest sexual abuse cases in recent history.
Following these allegations, Dr. Stockin was arraigned and is currently awaiting trial. If convicted, the penalties could be severe, reflecting the gravity of the accusations. The Army is also contending with civil complaints brought by the victims of Stockin who have filed complaints under the Federal Torts Claims Act.
For patients of Dr. Stockin who believe they experienced doctor sexual misconduct, there are several actions you can take. Many patients may not label their experience as doctor sexual assault in the moment given an inherent trust in medical professionals and in the case of Dr. Stockin, believing the procedures were medically necessary.
First, if you were a patient of Stockin’s, we recommend writing down everything you remember happening including the date, time, location, and what happened in your own words.
From there, we recommend contacting an experienced doctor sexual abuse lawyer as soon as possible. They can help you understand the next best steps to take such as rpeorting to the military base and/or to law enforcement. They can also help preserve your rights should you choose to explore filling a civil lawsuit against Stockin and possibly against the institutions, including the Army, that enabled the abuse.
