Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center Sex Abuse Lawsuit
Video Transcript
The Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center in Wall Township, New Jersey, was shut down in 2005 after decades of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of vulnerable children. Today, survivors are suing the state, alleging it failed to protect them and enabled the abuse to happen. Investigations revealed staff intimidation, dangerous conditions, and employees untrained to care for children with mental health needs. More than 150 lawsuits have now been filed against New Jersey state-run child treatment centers, including the Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center.
If you or a loved one suffered abuse at Brisbane or any other New Jersey child treatment facility, you have legal rights and options. First, you can file a police report against the individual perpetrators to launch a criminal investigation, no matter how long ago the harm happened. Survivors can also potentially file a lawsuit to pursue accountability and compensation for the harm they endured to pay for medical bills, therapy, and other damages. However, the state imposes time limits to file a claim. Under New Jersey statute of limitations, civil child sexual abuse lawsuits must be filed by the victim’s 55th birthday. Adult sexual assault lawsuits must be filed within 7 years of the act.
