Video Transcript

In this video, we are discussing the allegations of sexual abuse at Polinsky Children’s Center in San Diego County, an emergency center for vulnerable children operated by San Diego County’s Health and Human Services Agency. Polinsky Children’s Center was meant to be a safe haven for vulnerable children. However, recent lawsuits suggest a much darker narrative has unfolded behind its doors.

As of today, over 100 individuals have come forward with claims of being sexually abused by staff members at this facility. These allegations span from 1990 to 2023, involving children as young as 2 years old up to 17 years old. Victims allege a range of abuse, from groping and molestation to repeated sexual assaults, facilitated by a culture of silence and intimidation.

These lawsuits not only target individual abusers but also implicate San Diego County for failing to oversee and protect these children effectively. The center itself has undergone several investigations, with few resulting in any substantial disciplinary actions.

In light of these accusations, if you or someone you know was abused at the Polinsky Children’s Center, you have rights and options. You can report the abuse to local law enforcement to trigger a criminal investigation, report to state oversight agencies, and may be able to pursue a civil lawsuit to seek compensation for the harm that happened to you and hold those responsible accountable.

California’s Child Victims Act has extended the time survivors have to file civil lawsuits for child sexual abuse, meaning it’s likely not too late to explore your options. Before you take action, we highly recommend you reach out to an experienced sexual abuse attorney who can not only help you understand your rights and options but make sure they’re protected throughout these reporting processes.
