A 43-year-old King County rideshare driver, Martin Njoki, has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old passenger during a ride in Bellevue, Washington. The incident, which took place on February 17, 2025, has prompted widespread concern over safety in the rideshare industry, especially for vulnerable passengers.
Njoki has been charged with unlawful imprisonment and indecent liberties in connection with the alleged assault. According to police reports, Njoki, who was driving the teen home, convinced her to sit in the front seat of his car by moving some of his belongings out of the way. The two conversed during the ride, with Njoki making inappropriate comments, such as asking if the teen “kissed and told” and whether she would kiss him.
As the ride neared the victim’s home, police say Njoki stopped the vehicle a couple of blocks away, locked the passenger door, and made sexual advances toward the victim. Court documents state that Njoki groped the teen and forced her to touch him inappropriately. The victim was eventually able to escape the vehicle, and Njoki drove off, leaving her traumatized.
Njoki was arrested on April 10, 2025, following a police investigation. He is currently being held in King County Jail on $150,000 bail. Police are urging any other potential victims of Njoki to come forward, with additional details such as the vehicle’s license plate number, CBM2456, being provided for identification. Njoki is scheduled to enter a plea in court on April 24, 2025.
