A petition was filed to consolidate Lyft cases into a multi-district litigation (MDL), similar to the current Uber MDL. At the time of filing the petition on Oct. 6, 2025, there were at least 17 actions filed in 10 federal judicial districts across the US. The plaintiffs asked to consolidate these claims in either the US District Court for the northern District of California or the USDC for the Western District of Washington.
The petition further accuses Lyft of ignoring reports of sexual assault coming from passengers. “For at least a decade, Lyft has been aware of incidents in which its drivers sexually assaulted its passengers.”
Additionally, it notes that Lyft’s recorded incidents of assault and harassment might be even greater than Uber’s:
“Lyft’s numbers are highly suspect. In reports to the California Public Utilities Commission, Lyft identified over 18,000 incidents of assault and harassment in a single year period–notably more than its competitor, Uber.”
The potential Lyft MDL is not on the hearing schedule for the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation’s Dec. 4 hearing, so it will likely be heard and decided on in February 2026.
