Rights and Options for New York Lyft Assault Survivors
Video Transcript
Over the past 5 years, hundreds of survivors have filed lawsuits against the ride share company Lyft, alleging the company failed to properly screen its drivers and protect passengers from known repeat offenders. Between 2020 and 2022, Lyft reported 2,651 sexual assault incidents involving its drivers, including cases of non-consensual touching, attempted rape, and rape in its own self-published US safety report.
Victims of rideshare sexual assault in New York may be eligible to file civil lawsuits against both the individual driver and the company. Survivors may seek compensation for medical expenses, emotional trauma, loss of income, and other damages. New York law gives adult survivors of serious sexual offenses up to 20 years to file a civil lawsuit. Although deadlines for criminal prosecution vary by the severity of the crime, Helping Survivors connects individuals harmed by lyft drivers with experienced attorneys who understand the complexities of these cases. Every law firm we work with can provide a free consultation and take these types of cases on a contingency fee basis, meaning there are no upfront costs to pursuing a claim.
Anyone who has suffered rideshare sexual assault deserves to know their rights and options. For more information, please reach out to Helping Survivors today.
