Key Takeaways
  • Recent research has exposed how easily children can encounter inappropriate content and interact unsupervised with adults on the gaming platform Roblox.
  • Numerous lawsuits accuse Roblox of failing to protect kids on its platform, enabling sexual predators to prey on them. In December, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation consolidated many of these lawsuits into a federal MDL.
  • While Roblox has acknowledged that children may be exposed to harmful content and “bad actors” on the platform, and states it is working to increase safety measures, the company also notes that government intervention is likely needed to address the issue.
  • If you or your child has experienced sexual abuse or exploitation on Roblox, you have legal rights and options. Helping Survivors can help connect you with an attorney.

Since its release nearly twenty years ago, Roblox has grown to a $90 billion company with over 111 million daily active users, of whom about 40% are under 13 years old. The Roblox website and mobile app have limited safety controls, and one report has found that children as young as five could communicate with adults on the platform, which does not have an effective age verification system.

The lack of effective safety measures on the site has led to the alleged sexual exploitation of numerous children, whose families are now taking legal action against Roblox.

Do I Have A Case Against Roblox?

Based on the allegations of previous lawsuit filings against Roblox, you should speak to a lawyer as soon as possible if you, your child, or someone else you know has experienced any of the following on the site:

  • Grooming and coercion
  • Inappropriate contact by an adult user
  • Sexual exploitation or extortion, often involving the exchange of “Robux” for explicit photographs or in-person meetups
  • Threats of violence against the victim’s families if the victim did not send sexually explicit photographs or other materials

The New Roblox Multi-District Litigation (MDL)

In October, a group of federal lawsuits from across the country, which accuse Roblox of failing to protect children, petitioned the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate and centralize their cases into an MDL. Multidistrict litigation, or MDLs, is a legal process that consolidates similar lawsuits into a single federal court for pre-trial proceedings. After a hearing before the panel on December 4, the panel granted consolidation, transferring the cases to the Northern District of California.

On December 12, the judicial panel filed a transfer order stating that the 80+ current lawsuits against Roblox involve common questions of fact, and that centralization in California would be convenient and efficient for parties and witnesses. The panel assigned the new MDL to Chief Judge Richard Seeborg to manage the proceedings.

Roblox Lawsuits in the News

December 2025

November 2025

  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the Roblox Corporation, saying in a press release that,”Roblox must do more to protect kids from sick and twisted freaks hiding behind a screen. Any corporation that enables child abuse will face the full and unrelenting force of the law.”

October 2025

  • A group of 42 active federal lawsuits against Roblox have petitioned the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate their cases into one MDL in the Northern District of California. A hearing is scheduled on the matter for December 4, 2025 before the Panel, after which the Panel will issue an order granting or denying consolidation. If consolidated, the MDL would include all current and future federal lawsuits against Roblox involving child exploitation claims, including grooming, sexual abuse, sextortion, and more.
  • The Kentucky Attorney General has announced a lawsuit against Roblox alleging that the platform is creating an environment that lends itself to child predators and grooming.

September 2025

  • An Oklahoma parent has joined more than 800 families in filing a lawsuit against Roblox. The latest suit centers around a 12-year-old girl who was reportedly groomed by a man in his 40s posing as a 15-year-old boy. According to the lawsuit, the man asked the girl for her personal information and coerced her into sending him sexually explicit photos by threatening to kill her family.
  • A Michigan lawsuit claims Roblox let online predators target a now-adult woman when she was a minor in 2016. The suit asserts predators used Roblox’s in-game currency to coerce minors into sending sexually explicit material or meeting in person.

August 2025

  • A California family filed a lawsuit against Roblox and online communication platform Discord, alleging their 10-year-old daughter was kidnapped by a man she met on Roblox. Police reportedly found the girl hundreds of miles away from her home at a strip mall near the man’s house.
  • A Georgia lawsuit calls Roblox a “hunting ground for child-sex predators,” alleging that the platform caused the sexual exploitation of a nine-year-old boy. The suit says predators harassed the boy for months and extorted him to send sexually explicit photos and videos.
  • In Missouri, a family filed a lawsuit against Roblox for allegedly exposing their 13-year-old daughter to a pedophile on the platform. The lawsuit states that the predator posed as a fellow child and exploited the girl’s vulnerability before sending her sexually explicit images of himself and convincing her to do the same. Attorneys for the family said the design of the app makes children easy prey for online predators.
  • A Michigan family’s lawsuit against Roblox alleges that a 10-year-old Michigan girl was subjected to sexual exploitation on the site due to its lack of safety measures. The suit says the girl was targeted by someone posing as a child who sent her graphic messages and explicit photos of himself, convincing her to do the same. The lawsuit alleges Roblox misrepresented and concealed information about the predatory conduct its app enables and facilitates.
  • In mid-August, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office sued Roblox for perpetuating an environment where sexual predators “thrive, unite, hunt, and victimize kids.” Attorney General Liz Murrill said Roblox has failed to implement effective safety measures to protect child users from adult predators, asserting that the platform prioritizes user growth and profits over child safety. She is calling for the platform to be shut down.

Is Roblox Safe for My Child?

Digital safety often depends on what a child’s parent or guardian is comfortable with. However, while Roblox says it has a “zero-tolerance policy for the exploitation of minors,” there is no age minimum or substantial age verification process when signing up. Thus, adults posing as children can sign up, allowing predators to target and exploit children on the platform.

Currently, Roblox’s parental controls allow parents to turn off access to certain experiences, mature content, sensitive issues, and private communications. Additionally, players under age 12 have their posts and chat messages filtered for inappropriate content and personal information.

Roblox has also stated that it has an AI system to monitor voice and text chats for unsafe content and has reworked its age verification processes, but many parents aren’t convinced that’s enough to protect their children.

In November 2025, Roblox CEO David Baszucki further explained the company’s age estimation software on the Hard Fork podcast, where he was asked how easy it would be to bypass the security measures with false avatars. Baszucki responded that the image-based measures would work in tandem with “existing safety measures” such as optional photo ID verification and chat filters. However, at least one lawsuit already notes the existing safety measures were manipulated by predators.
