Legal Rights And Options For Victims of Rideshare Sexual Assault?
Video Transcript
There are several steps that you should take, and some of these are going to be stock steps you should take if you’re ever assaulted.
The first thing you want to do is seek help—either police or medical help, right? For the police side of it, you want to get a police report. For the medical side of it, you want to make sure that you’re okay, potentially do a rape kit, and make sure that the incident is documented both legally and medically.
Then, what you want to do is report the incident to Uber or Lyft, create a record with them, let them know what’s going on, and then reach out to a qualified attorney who can help you with this kind of case. Don’t just call any personal injury lawyer—these are specialized cases. Uber and Lyft cases, many of them, get filed in Northern California, where these tech companies are, but they may be local as well. You’ve got to have an attorney who’s qualified to handle this type of case.
Just to recap—police report, medical report, reach out to Uber and Lyft, paper it up with them, and then reach out to Helping Survivors. Talk to them—if they think it rises to the level of a case, they can connect you to Meirowitz & Wasserberg, and we’ll do everything we can to help you.
