In March 2025, a now-former Uber driver allegedly sexually assaulted a client who is a minor. The young woman told police she had two alcoholic drinks with her boyfriend and a friend before they took a rideshare to a restaurant in Norwalk, Conn., but that she was “tipsy,” not deeply inebriated.
After leaving the restaurant by herself around 12:00 a.m., she called an Uber and stayed in the car to speak in Spanish with the driver. The victim told police at the time she did not feel threatened and had pleasant conversation with the driver. At some point, she was offered a bottle of water, which the victim told police she believed was sealed before opening, and then remembered nothing from that point on until around 6 a.m.
The girl’s mother had been tracking her phone and realized she never arrived, following her daughter’s location to the street the driver lived on. The vehicle promptly turned around and delivered the victim to her house, where she was received by her mother in a severely intoxicated state.
Recent Update in the Case
Suspect Edgar Interiano was taken into custody in July 2025 after an investigation launched on March 15, following the alleged assault’s report to local authorities.
Initially, Interiano was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, procuring alcohol for a minor, and improper storage of a firearm in a vehicle. However, following further investigation, including videos from cameras outside his home, he was also charged with second-degree sexual assault.
Interiano was given a $100,000 bond and was unable to post bail. He appeared in court on July 30.
Uber's Response
In response to the incident, an Uber spokesperson expressed concern, stating, “We are appalled by the details of this report. The driver was removed from the Uber platform as soon as we were made aware of this disturbing incident. We stand by to assist the police however we can.”
