Video Transcript

Mingus Mountain Academy located in Prescott Valley Arizona is a residential treatment facility for at risk teenage girls. Recent investigations and lawsuits have brought to light serious allegations of sexual and physical abuse by staff members spanning over a decade.

In 2025, a lawsuit was filed by 13 former residents alleging repeated sexual assaults by staff between 2011 and 2022. One plaintiff claimed she was assaulted approximately 80 times during her stay at the facility. The lawsuit describes the facility as fostering a culture where abuse was rampant and reports were ignored.

The Arizona Department of Health Services has cited Mingus Mountain Academy 40 times since 2022 for various deficiencies including failure to follow proper protocols when residents reported inappropriate conduct by staff members. Additionally, the facility and its management company, Viveant Behavioral Healthcare, were named in a US Senate investigation into systemic abuse
happening at their residential treatment facilities.

Survivors of abuse at Mingus Mountain Academy have legal rights and options. In Arizona, individuals have until their 30th birthday to file a civil lawsuit for child sexual abuse. There’s no time limit for filing a police report related to child sexual abuse.
