Video Transcript

Some examples of sexual assault in Uber or Lyfts that we’ve seen—and we’ve seen a lot.

We’re talking about something like the driver starts using suggestive language and maybe reaches back and touches the passenger. See if the passenger is going to reject the advance, and maybe they take it a step further—try to put a hand up someone’s skirt.

We have seen some horror stories where the driver takes a person home and offers to help them get inside because they’re intoxicated, and then forces their way in. And next thing you know, the person is filing a police report for serious aggravated sexual assault.

So there really is a range. We have heard—and I haven’t had a case like this—but we have heard stories of drivers drugging people. One potential method would be to put something on the door handle that would go onto the passenger’s hand, and when they breathe it in, render them unconscious. Then the driver can do almost anything they want.

So you do have to be really careful and alert with these Uber and Lyft drivers. And I want to say that the great majority of these rides are safe, but you do need to be alert because they’re not all safe drivers.
