A 21-year-old man, Andre Hunter, has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping and raping a Lyft driver in April 2024. The conviction follows a harrowing incident where Hunter forced the victim into a terrifying ordeal, which included multiple sexual assaults and threats to kill her.
The attack occurred when Hunter requested the driver take him to a Del City address, where he then restrained her in the backseat and forced her to drive to a nearby park. He threatened to shoot her if she did not comply with his demands. The assault escalated as he raped her multiple times before forcing her back into the vehicle and threatening her life again.
Heroic Response from Victim and Justice Served
Following the assault, Hunter abandoned the victim at a church in Northeast Oklahoma City after stealing her car and phone. Thanks to the Life360 app on the victim’s phone, police were able to track Hunter down at Langston University, leading to his arrest. He was later charged with two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of forcible oral sodomy, one count of sexual battery, kidnapping, and robbery.
Hunter’s prior criminal history included charges for firearms possession and drug trafficking, resulting in additional sentences that will run consecutively. His life sentence follows these additional 27 years, ensuring that he will remain behind bars for the foreseeable future.
Survivor’s Courage and the Fight for Justice
The victim bravely faced Hunter in court, delivering a powerful victim impact statement. “I am strong and courageous to fight this fight, and I will always be in the background fighting to make sure you never hurt another woman again,” she said, taking back her life from the terror she endured.
Her statement was a testament to the strength and resilience of survivors everywhere, and the case has drawn attention to the importance of supporting victims in their pursuit of justice.
