Why Did You Decide To Work With Helping Survivors
Video Transcript
The reason we decided to work with Helping Survivors is because it’s an amazing organization that helps people who need it the most. Our firm is dedicated to helping the injured, the vulnerable, and Helping Survivors helps the most vulnerable people who have gone through sexual abuse in their lives. Having a team of people that have the resources, care, and give the support that these people need at a time when they need it the most is completely aligned with our mission and our core values.
One thing that’s similar in terms of the struggle that we face as warriors at times is having to tell survivors things that they don’t want to hear. These are not things that are easy to say to people who have poured their hearts and souls out to you, particularly if you’re the first person that they’ve ever told about the abuse that they’ve encountered.
But it’s really important to be honest, to be straightforward, and to tell people exactly what their rights are, what you can accomplish as a lawyer, and what you can accomplish as a lawyer. But always remember that we provide a support system as well, and that helping survivors is part of that support system. It’s, yes, we have a case and we can help you, and there are lawyers that will go and fight for your rights. But if you don’t have a case, you still went through a traumatic experience, and helping survivors will be there to help you in your time of need, to get you the treatment, the resources, the help that you need, and to hear your story and be there for you.
The statute of limitations has been a hot topic in sex abuse cases. It really varies from state to state, and even in some jurisdictions where the law is prohibitive of filing a case now may change because a lot of states are changing their policies with respect to the statute of limitations in sex abuse cases. So, it’s really important to talk to a lawyer. There have been instances where we have actually taken cases where the statute of limitations has passed in a jurisdiction that we think the statute is going to open up. So, it’s again really important to talk to a lawyer, to give them an opportunity to investigate the law and see if there’s any chance that you have a potential claim.
