Dr. Farley: Patient Sexual Abuse Allegations
Video Transcript
In this video, we are going to discuss a troubling case that has sparked outrage in the local community and online. Dr. David Farley, a family medicine practitioner in Oregon, stands accused of serious allegations of sexual abuse by over 120 former patients, many of whom were young woman that met Dr. Farley through their connections with the Latter Day Saints Church.
Dr. Farley previously practiced at the West Linn Family Health Center and was affiliated with medical centers including Legacy Meridian Park and Providence Willamette Falls. His career came to an abrupt end in the summer of 2020 when he resigned following an investigation by the Oregon Medical Board into reports of his conduct and they later revoked his medical license.
The board’s investigation revealed that Dr. Farley conducted medically unnecessary and unsupervised pelvic and breast exams on minors and adult women. Disturbingly, he also solicited parents for permission to photograph their children’s genitalia and breasts.
Despite multiple patients coming forward, the initial criminal investigation by local authorities faced criticism for alleged mishandling. In 2022, a grand jury did not indict Dr. Farley due to insufficient evidence, a decision that has been met with significant public and legal scrutiny.
Outraged by the lack of criminal charges, 71 of Dr. Farley’s former patients penned an open letter to Oregon’s Attorney General, calling for further investigation. Dr. Farley currently lives in Nephi, Utah, and is allowed to continue attending the local Latter Day Saints church, also known as the Mormon church, even though the church is aware of his abuse allegations in Oregon.
In response to these alarming accusations and the alleged criminal mishandling of the case, over 120 individuals have now joined a lawsuit against Dr. Farley and the medical centers he was associated with. They seek nearly $1 billion in damages for the alleged abuse, with a trial set for early 2026.
