Darion Martez Halliburton from Waterloo, Iowa, has been found guilty of abducting and sexually assaulting a female Uber driver. On Aug. 27, 2025, jurors convicted Halliburton of second-degree sexual abuse and third-degree kidnapping after a trial that revealed disturbing details of the February 2024 incident.
The Incident and Conviction
The assault occurred on February 10, 2024, when Halliburton ordered an Uber to pick him up from his home on Dawson Street. Upon the driver’s arrival, Halliburton threatened her with a handgun and forced her into his residence. He then sexually abused her for over three hours before allowing her to leave.
The victim’s bravery in reporting the crime and the subsequent investigation led to critical evidence, including a DNA match, bloody sheets, and the discovery of her missing sock and underwear at Halliburton’s home.
Sentencing and Legal Ramifications
Halliburton was convicted of second-degree sexual abuse, which carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, and third-degree kidnapping, which can result in up to 10 years behind bars. Although he was initially charged with first-degree kidnapping, the jury reduced the charge, sparing him the mandatory life sentence. Sentencing is set for a later date.
During the trial, Halliburton’s defense claimed the sexual encounter was consensual, but the jury rejected this argument, leading to his conviction on all charges.
