Lyft Introduces New Feature to Block or Favorite Drivers for Safety

Lyft App New Blocking and Favoriting Feature

Lyft has rolled out a new feature aimed at enhancing riders’ comfort and safety during their trips. The rideshare company announced that starting the week of July 28, 2025, passengers will be able to favorite or block a driver after a ride. This gives riders more control over their future rides, ideally helping create a safer experience.

Blocking a Lyft Driver for Safety

Lyft is introducing a new Safety Hub where riders can block drivers they prefer not to ride with again. This feature gives passengers the ability to avoid future rides with drivers they’re uncomfortable with. The Safety Hub also includes tools like audio recordings, PIN verifications, and scheduling a check-in with loved ones for extra peace of mind during the ride.

How to Favorite a Lyft Driver

Lyft will also now give you the option to favorite the driver directly from the ride summary screen, where you can also leave a rating and tip after a ride. By clicking the checkmark next to “Favorite this driver,” you’ll increase your chances of being paired with that driver on future trips. While the feature helps riders connect with drivers they feel comfortable with, it doesn’t guarantee the same driver will be available, as Lyft will still try to assign the closest driver to your pick-up location.

Addressing Safety in Rideshare Vehicles

According to the company, the goal is to reward drivers who provide excellent service and give riders more control over their experience. While currently only available to riders, Lyft plans to introduce a similar Safety Hub for drivers in the future.

This app feature comes on the heels of another safety feature allowing female passengers to request women-only drivers
