What Are Some Examples Of Doctor Sexual Abuse?

Video Transcript

Some examples of doctor-patient abuse could be the gynecologist doing procedures on you as a woman that you don’t even know—what they are, how they’re supposed to feel, what the aftermath of the procedure would be.

For example, we’ve heard stories about doctors breaking young girls’ hymens—not supposed to do that, no reason to do that, blood afterward. But if you are just a young woman, you have no idea that that was or was not supposed to happen.

So when we’re not talking about the gynecological context, we’d be talking about either a primary care physician or some other doctor who’s not supposed to be necessarily down there below the waist. They may be doing some kind of vaginal exam, some kind of testicle exam, some kind of penile exam that just doesn’t seem right, or even a rectal exam.

And these are all very awkward situations, and I think you just have to go with your gut and trust your instincts on whether or not what occurred was appropriate. If you think it was inappropriate, reach out to Helping Survivors. That way, you can talk to someone in a very confidential format about whether or not this behavior was appropriate or inappropriate. And Helping Survivors can help you make a determination on whether or not you need to seek legal counsel.

If the determination is yes, then they’ll put you in touch with us—Meirowitz and Wasserberg—and we will do a full, free, confidential, always-confidential evaluation for you.
